The Lovely Feathers Guelph Live Music
I managed to catch Montreal's The Lovely Feathers this past Friday at the Jimmy Jazz in Guelph.  Touring behind their latest album Fantasy Of The Lot (released June '09), the boys put on a very entertaining and enjoyable show.  Notable standouts for me were Ossified Homes from their latest record, and Pope John Paul from their last record Hind Hind Legs.
If you get the chance to see them, I highly recommend it.

Hollerado 11/23/2009

Guelph live music
I only found out about this show today!  It looks like Hollerado is coming back to Guelph this week.  They were here back in October with The Arkells.  This time they're playing Van Goghs Ear on Wednesday with The Goodluck Assembly.
This show isn't even listed on hollerado.com (but it is listed on their MySpace site)
This will be their first of only three shows on Canadian soil between a South American tour and an upcoming Chinese tour!  They're dubbing this tour the Half World Tour.
I first heard of them after someone sent me a link to their video for Americanarama.  Hilarious!  Check it out.

Jason Bajada 11/23/2009

The music find of the weekend was Jason Bajada who played the Albion Hotel Friday night with friends The Wooden Sky.  Touring behind his latest album Loveshit Jason opened up the evening to a packed house.  He played half of the show solo and the other half with an accompaniment of stand up bass and keys.  It was gorgeous.  It was the kind of show that certainly deserved a higher spot on the bill.  If Jason Bajada is in your neck of the woods, go check him out!

Toronto's The Wooden Sky are playing the Albion Hotel Friday November 20 in support of their latest album If I Don’t Come Home You’ll Know I’m Gone.  Touring with them is Out of this Spark's Evening Hymns and Jason Bajada.  Should be a great folky-rocky-boozy night!  See you there!

The Wooden Sky are nominated for a CBC Radio 3 Bucky Award for Best Vocals for their song 'Oh My God (It Still Means A Lot To Me)'.  Have a listen!

I came across a flyer today at Salsateria promoting the month long "Get Yer Guitars & Give 'em Away!" music festival here in Guelph.  5 shows across the city, in what appears to be private homes  (Except the Jimmy Jazz show on Thursday November 19), raising funds that will go towards acquiring acoustic guitars for the Brant Avenue Youth Music Program that starts in February 2010.
If you can, come out and support the great local music.  All proceeds go to the Brant Avenue Youth Music Program.

British Columbia's You Say Party! We Say Die! (aka YSP!WSD!) are playing Guelph's eBar Thursday November 12 in support of their latest album XXXX.  It is sure to be a great, high energy show!  Don't believe me?  Have a listen to the YSP!WSD! set at Halifax Pop Explosion this year.

Also playing Thursday night, Montreal's Think About Life.

You're coming downtown to catch the Guelph Storm hockey game tonight.  I know you are.  Instead of running away after the game like you normally do, you should head to the Albion for some live music!  Arts & Crafts' The Most Serene Republic are in town with their friends Meligrove Band.  The name sounds familiar you say?  Perhaps because you saw them on the front cover of this weeks Echo Weekly newspaper.
Storm win or lose, you can't go wrong with these two bands!

Polaris Music Prize 2009 short list nominees for their album Labyrinthes, Montreal's Malajube are playing the eBar Wednesday night. They are also nominated this year for CBC Radio 3 Bucky Awards for "Best Reason To Learn French" and "Best Song".
Sure they sing in French, but it will sure to be the best French music you hear all year!
Also on the bill, another Montreal band Young Galaxy.

I missed out on CFRU's Glam Slam Ball at the eBar last Thursday.  From all accounts it was a great show.  A tribute to the King of Pop Michael Jackson done by an all-star gathering of Guelph musicians King Neptune & His Tridents.
It looked like such a fun time!
